Oluwatosin Adedeji from Osun and Oyo State runner Abiye David have emerged winners of the maiden Sunshine Marathon in the male and female categories respectively.
Shaba Dare and Nuhu Joy from Plateau State came second in respective categories while Abubakar Muhammed and Charity Adofure finished as second runners up.
Speaking after crossing the line, the winner of the male category, Oluwatosin Adedeji disclosed that he had been participating in Marathon since 2018.
He thanked the organisers for their efforts at contributing their quota to the development of sports in country.
On her part, female winner, Abiye David said she prepared very well for the race hence not surprised by the result.
The Organiser of the event, Ayomikun Oladele while congratulating the winners called on government at all levels to always support individuals and private sectors with lofty ideas that would meaningfully engage the youths.
“We decided to organise this Marathon because it has not been given the deserved recognition in this part of the country. Football and others are the only sports being celebrated here, the reason we decided to bring the youths together with the long distance race.
“The race is not just for the fun of it but an avenue to show to the world that talents abound in Ondo State and in the country at large.
“The competition will not be a one-off event, I am sure the second edition will be better”.
The Marathon took off at Akure Airport junction through A Division of the Nigeria Police Force through NEPA roundabout and ended at Arcade, Alagbaka.
The winners of different categories were presented with cash prizes .
The first of its kind race was in conjuction with Ondo State Ministry of Youth and Sports Development.
