The President-elect Bola Ahmed Tinubu and the Vice President-elect Kashim Shettima have been conferred with the highest national honours of (GCFR) and (GCON).
The President-elect was conferred with the Grand Commander of the Order of the Federal Republic of Nigeria (GCFR) the highest national honour in the country given only to Presidents of the country and past Heads of State while the Vice President-elect, Kashim Shettima was honoured with the Grand Commander of the Order of the Niger (GCON).
President Muhammadu Buhari conferred the national honours at the Presidential Villa in Abuja, as part of activities lined up for the inauguration of the new administration on May 29 2023.
The Minister of Special Duties and Intergovernmental Affairs George Akume while congratulating the president-elect, expressed optimism that the country would be ushered into an era of prosperity under the incoming administration.
The Minister believed that all the progressive legacies left behind by the administration of President Muhammadu Buhari would be pursued by the incoming administration.
On his part, the Secretary to the Government of the Federation (SGF) Boss Mustapha noted that President Muhammadu Buhari had done so well in the last eight years owing to what he described as visionary leadership.
He stressed that the present administration had surmounted all obstacles and had invested in security, infrastructure and other critical sectors of the economy
The SGF maintained that the multifaceted approach employed by President Buhari lifted the country out of the shackle of recession that his administration inherited.
Reflecting on the eight years of President Buhari, the SGF said a lot was achieved in the areas of infrastructure which include railway lines, road infrastructure sukuk projects, the Second Niger Bridge, and power amongst many other projects.
