In the early hours of Friday morning, news broke that the Reds had agreed a British record transfer fee of £110million with the Seagulls for the Ecuador international. However, Caicedo has not yet agreed personal terms with Liverpool despite the Merseyside club planning a medical for the midfielder at the AXA Training Centre on Friday afternoon.

Caicedo remains in London, While Chelsea attempts an improved offer to Brighton, they remain confident they can beat Liverpool to the 21-year-old’s signature.

Jurgen Klopp, while speaking in his pre-match press conference ahead Chelsea vs Liverpool on Sunday, confirmed the club had agreed a deal with Brighton for Caicedo. The German, however, did suggest there was still plenty to complete before the signing is made official.

“First and foremost, I got told I can confirm the deal with the club is agreed,” Klopp told reporters. “Whatever that means exactly.

“We want the player and not any kind of agreement. What did change is we are a club, we don’t have endless resources. We didn’t expect a couple of things to happen this summer; [Jordan Henderson, Fabinho] – stuff like this. We gave it a go and we will see. I’ve told you now what I know.”

When asked if his medical is later today, Klopp replied: “I cannot say. I do not know.”

The next hours are absolutely crucial. It really could go either way at the moment and while there is no new offer on the table just yet, Chelsea remain confident.

Chelsea remain confident they can still sign Moises Caicedo despite Liverpool agreeing a £110million deal with Brighton, after the player reportedly told Liverpool he would prefer a move to Stamford bridge instead.

Chelsea has expressed interest in the Brighton midfielder since the start of the window and has seen several bids up to £90M turned down.

It is not clear whether Caicedo will play for either side as Chelsea welcomes Liverpool in their opening encounter of the 2023/2024 Premier League season at Stamford bridge.
