Ondo State House of Assembly has committed the 2024 State budget proposal to Committee stage, just as it scaled second reading.
At plenary presided over by the Speaker, Olamide Oladiji, directed the Committee on Finance and Appropriation to do justice to the budget and submit to the House in the next
Acting Governor, Lucky Aiyedatiwa presented a budget proposal of 384.5 billion for the 2024 fiscal year to the state House of Assembly.
The budget proposal Christened” Budget of Economic Resilience” is higher than the 2023 budget of 275.9 billion.
In his ruling, the Speaker commended the Acting governor for the presentation of the budget, explaining that the event is in tandem with the 1999 constitution as amended.
While noting that the proposal is for the overall interest of the people of the state, he charged the Committee to do justice to the bill.
The speaker also directed that all the Ministries, Departments and Agencies,(MDAs) must liaise with standing committees and equally come along with each Chairman of the committee before appearing for budget defense, while anybody who fails will not be allowed to appear for budget defense.
Earlier, the Majority Leader of the house,Oluwole Ogunmolasuyi moved a motion for the budget to be moved to second reading and was seconded by Japhat Oluwatoyi
In his explanation, the Chairman House Committee on Finance and Appropriation, Oluwole Ogunmolasuyi expressed the belief that the 2024 budget will consolidate on the previous activities of the state government.
He promised that the committee will look critically and do justice to the budget proposal.
Other Lawmakers who had debated on the Appropriation bill, observed that the budget will add value to the people of the state and equally make the state to be viable economically.
They affirmed that the budget has good vision and mission in its framework to make people enjoy the dividends of democracy ,as it cuts across all critical sectors.
