The selection process of a new Olufon of Ifon, the headquarters of Ose Local Government Area in Ondo State is generating various reactions from stakeholders.
Latest is coming from the Umuagba ruling House as contained in a Press release dated 9th July 2022 and signed by the Family head, prince Adekolu Odogiyan and family secretary, prince Tony Adepoyigi.
Justifying the selection of prince Adelanke Odogiyan from the Umuagba ruling House by the State Government to fill the vacuum created by the demise of Oba Adegoke Adeusi in November 2020, the ruling house emphasised the steps taken by the state government at a meeting with stakeholders presided over by the Deputy Governor, Lucky Aiyedatiwa at the Governor’s office in Akure where a unanimous decision of all parties present granted leave to the state government to wade into the selection process.
“The deputy Governor went ahead to say that the Erunogbe Ruling House haven produced seven of eleven Obas in Ifon should rest for now. Erunogbe was well represented at the said meeting. Erunogbe listed as number seven has been rested for now.”
“Thus by letter dated 28th May 2022, the state government invited the Umuagba Ruling House to produce the candidate for the Olufon’s stool. The family has since met and selected their candidate in the person of Prince Adelanke Adetoyese Odogiyan, a legal practitioner, Past National President of the Nigerian Bar Association and a distinguished Life Bencher…”
Consequently, the Umuagba ruling house refuted claims of disaffection among its people over the selection process, assuring that Ifon Indigenes at home and abroad are anxiously waiting for the installation of a new Olufon.
Oba Adegoke Adeusi was assassinated on the 26th of November, 2020 along Elegbeka road in Ifon, throwing open the stool of the Olufon.
