For efficient monitoring,supervision and evaluation of activities of all public schools across the State, Ondo State House of Assembly has committed a Bill for a law to provide for the establishment of a Board for the management of Secondary Schools in the State.
The House made this known today during a debate on the Bill at the plenary presided over by the Speaker of the House of Assembly,Rt.Hon Olamide Oladiji.
Moving the motion for the bill to be committed to the committee on education, the House majority leader, Hon. Oluwole Ogunmolasuyi said that when the bill is passed into law, it would help Ondo State Secondary School system in terms of development and infrastructure.
Also speaking on the Bill, the Vice-Chairman of the Committee on education. Hon. Sulaiman Murtala, observed that the bill is long overdue, stressing the urgent need for a Board that would govern, monitor and facilitate the desired development in all the secondary Schools in Ondo State.
ln his reaction, the Speaker of the House, Rt Hon. Olamide Oladiji lauded the State Government for taking a right step in a right direction as such would help in transforming the educational sector and build the future of the students.
Other lawmakers who lamented over the decay and poor learning conditions in most secondary schools in Ondo State, said the board would direct and block loopholes in the system for effective service delivery.
The bill which sailed through the second reading was later committed to committee stage for proper scrutiny.
ln another vein, a bill for a law to prohibit forceful entry and illegal occupation of landed properties, violent and fraudulent conduct in relation to landed properties in Ondo State was also committed to committee on lands and housing.
Debating on the Bill which is being sponsored by the Parliamentary Secretary of the House, Hon. Moyinolorun Ogunwumiju, the lawmakers observed that land grabbing is becoming rampant in Ondo State, expressing optimism that when the bill is passed into law, it would eradicate forceful invasion and land grabbing.
The Speaker of the House, however commended Hon Ogunwumiju for personally sponsoring the bill , saying such would further maintain the existing peace in the state.
He later directed the House Committee on Lands and Housing to work on the bill for scrutiny within a period of two weeks.
