Arakunrin Oluwarotimi Akeredolu and the candidate of the All Progressives Congress, APC has won Saturday’s governorship election in Ondo state.
Akeredolu was declared winner by the election’s returning officer, Prof Abel idowu Olayinka, the VC of the University of Ibadan after polling 292,830 votes
He closest challenger, Eyitayo Jegede of the Peoples Democratic Party, came second with 195791 votes while the deputy governor and candidate of the Zenith Labour Party, Agboola Ajayi came in a distant third with 69 127 votes
Prof Olayinka said Akeredolu having polled majority of the lawful votes cast is returned as the governor-elect of Ondo state.
Akeredolu and his APC won in 15 local government areas to include his native Owo, Ose, Akoko South West, Akoko South East, Akoko North West, Akoko North East, Ose, Ilaje, Ese Odo, Okitipupa, Idanre, Ondo East and West, Odigbo, Ileoluji/Oke Igbo.
Jegede won his LGA, Akure South and North as well as Ifedore while Ajayi failed to win any local government.
