President, Nigeria Union of Local Government Employees(NULGE), Ondo State chapter, Comrade Bola Taiwo has commended Governor Oluwarotimi Akeredolu for keeping to his promises that he would not owe workers their salaries.
He made the call on Wednesday during the executive congress of the union at its Secretariat at Oyemekun Road, Akure, the Ondo State capital.
The president commended Akeredolu for giving the welfare of workers priority.
He noted that the governor lived to his words during his inauguration that he would not owe workers salaries.
He disclosed that Akeredolu had paid all the backlog salaries of eight months he inherited from the immediate past administration.
He said, “Permit me to humbly use this medium on behalf of the Local Government Workers in Ondo State express our profound appreciation to your Excellency, Arakunrin, Odunayo Oluwarotimi Akeredolu (SAN) CON over your zeal, love and dedication towards the welfare of Local Government Workers in Ondo State since assumption of office and let me also felicitate you Sir, on the victory of the All Progressive Congress (APC) in the just concluded elections both at the Federal and State levels.
“The victory further re- affirm the confidence the people of Ondo State repose on you as Governor and Leader of the party in Ondo State. Congratulations sir.
“Your Excellency sir, I write this letter to affirm that since assumption of office as Governor of Ondo State, you have demonstrated an uncommon passion and zeal towards workers welfare in Ondo State you have never shirk or waver in your quest to see and ensure that workers in Ondo State are not treated as second fiddle among their counterparts in the South West.
“Your response to the issue of minimum wage for Ondo State workers is commendable and appreciated.
“Indeed, you have not left us in doubt that you are divinely ordained and positioned towards ameliorating the long suffering of the teeming workers of Ondo State and put a lasting smile on their faces.
“You are really God sent especially when we recall the harrowing experiences workers witnessed before your assumption of office whereby workers were owed over eight (8) months salary arrears despite enormous resources available to your predecessor.
“Sir, I could remember with nostalgic feelings during your address to the good people of Ondo State, especially to workers when you were sworn-in, you said you will not owe workers any salary before the expiration of your tenure.
“The promise has been made manifest in the last salaries of 174% received by Local Government Workers despite the lean finances available to the State. This indeed confirm that your word is your bound by prioritizing payment of workers’ salaries. No wonder you are called “Mr. Talk and Do”.
“Your Excellency, while further expressing our profound gratitude to you, we on our part will not take this for granted. We promise our unalloyed loyalty and dedication to your administration.
“We shall reciprocate this kind gesture with our improved commitment to duties in order to deliver qualitative and efficient service delivery to the teeming population of Ondo State.
“Once more, Your Excellency, thank you and God will continue to strengthen you to propel Ondo State to greater height”.
