In their opening match of the 2023 African Cup of Nations in Ivory Coast, the Super Eagles of Nigeria were unable to secure a victory and settled for a 1-1 draw against Equatorial Guinea.
Equatorial Guinea took the lead in the 37th minute with a well-executed goal by Iban Salvador, leaving Nigeria’s goalkeeper, Stanley Nwabali, unable to make a save.
However, Nigeria quickly responded with an equalizing goal from Victor Osimhen, who headed the ball into the net just before halftime.
Despite having numerous opportunities, Nigeria was unable to secure the winning goal.
Victor Osimhen, who scored his first goal in the African Cup of Nations (AFCON) on his debut, missed a significant chance in the 75th minute.
As part of Group A, Nigeria will face further challenges against Ivory Coast and Guinea Bissau in the upcoming matches of the tournament.
