Ondo Assembly passes 2024 Appropriation Bill into law

Ondo State House of Assembly has passed the 2024 appropriation bill into law with a total projection of 395.2 billion naira.

Chairman, House committee on Finance and Appropriation, Oluwole Ogunmolasuyi said the budget proposal by the executive was increased by 9%.

Governor Lucky Aiyedatiwa had presented an initial budget proposal of 384.5 billion naira to the lawmakers.

Before the budget passage, the lawmakers paid tributes to the late, former governor, Oluwarotimi Akeredolu, as they took turns to speak about him.

While describing the late leader as a rare gem who meant well for the people, they prayed God to grant the family the fortitude to bear the loss.

A minute silence was then observed in his honour.

Thereafter, the appropriation bill passage process began, as the appropriation committee chairman Mr. Ogunmolasuyi while submitting the report, explained that all Ministries, Departments and Agencies defended their proposals before the committee.

He said out of the approved figure, 172.5 billion naira is for recurrent expenditure while 212 billion naira is for capital projects.

The lawmaker, who is also the majority leader, recommended that the state government should take all necessary steps to propel income generating MDAs to embark on result oriented internally generated revenue drive.

He then moved the motion for bill to be passed into law and was seconded by Abayomi Akinruntan.

The Speaker, Olamide Oladiji in his ruling passed a total projection of 395.2 billion naira into law after the legislators gave a nod through a voice vote.

Oladiji noted that the 2024 fiscal budget will further drive the growth of the economy and commencement of new projects and programmes that are crucial to the development of the state.

While commending Governor Aiyedatiwa for his role in the passage of the bill, he assured that both the Executive and the Legislature will continue to work in harmony in the best interest of the state.
