Again, NPFL postpones 2023/24 kick-off

The Nigeria Premier Football League (NPFL) Board has postponed the kick-off of the 2023/2024 NPFL league season

In a letter signed by the board COO Davidson Owumi on Wednesday to all the club chairmen, the news of the postponement was conveyed to all the clubs while citing the exigencies connected to the sponsorship of the league as the reason for the latest postponement.

Aside from the sponsorship issue, Davidson Owumi further cited the need to have members focus on the Annual General Meeting (AGM) of the Nigeria Football Federation (NFF) which holds in Uyo, Akwa Ibom State.

According to him, the League body yielded to representations from various stakeholders in reaching the decision.

“We have everything set for the kickoff in Ibadan on Saturday but following representations from multiple stakeholders and more cogent is the complex logistics involved in having our Chairman and Clubs leadership travel from Ibadan to Uyo”, Owumi told NPFL Media Wednesday morning.

This is the second time the league kickoff is suffering a postponement, it will be recalled that the new league season was initially proposed by the NPFL board to kick-off on August 26, a date ratified by the Club Owners Association on August 4 after a consultative meeting between the board and the Association in Abuja.

A new date for the start of the season was not contained in the letter sent to the clubs
