Avoid crisis so as not to lose your desired LCDAs, Ondo assembly warns communities

Stakeholders from the 18 local government areas of Ondo State, civil societies, religious leaders , among others have converged on Akure to express their opinions on the proposed creation of Local Council Development Areas LCDAs in the state.

They made their opinions and demands known at a one day public hearing on a bill for the creation of Local Council Development Areas organised by the Ondo State house of assembly which took place at the international culture and event centre, The DOME in Akure.

In their various submissions and petitions the stakeholders who appreciated the state government for the gesture said the proposed LCDA’s would bring development and government closer to the people.

Some of the stakeholders frowned that at the moment, there was no authentic list of the names of the proposed LCDA’S except those pedled on social media, hence fuelling speculations.

Other petitions submitted by various stakeholders including change in the names of some LCDA’S, change in siting of headquarters while some are clamouring for additional LCDA’s

Others speakers at the event proposed that paramountcy in traditional institution should not be altered in the process.

Earlier, the Speaker, Olamide Oladiji saluted the visionary leadership of Governor Oluwarotimi Akeredolu for choosing to tow the line of other southwest states which had earlier created their LCDAS with a view to fast-tracking development at the grassroots.

Mr Oladiji however emphasised that the Oluwarotimi Akeredolu administration would not hesitate to cancel or suspend the creation of Local Council Development Areas in any community or Local Government areas where there is crisis or court injunctions.
