The Speaker of the House of Representatives, Rt. Hon. Femi Gbajabiamila has described the lawmaker representing Akoko southwest/Southeast federal constituency, Hon Ade Adeogun, as one of the most brilliant, calm and silently performing members of the 9th Assembly.
The Speaker said Adeogun always pushed for issues that would benefit his constituents since he was elected, saying, “thank you our kabiyesis and the people of this area for giving us such a brilliant son like Adeogun at the National Assembly.”
Gbajabiamila stated this at the Palace of Olubaka of Oka Akoko when Adeogun led him to a meeting with traditional rulers, religious and community leaders from the constituency at the weekend.
Earlier, the traditional rulers from the federal constituency had appealed to President Muhammadu Buhari to order immediate construction of deplorable federal roads in Akoko area of the state which have been causing nightmare for travellers to Abuja and Lagos.
The Royal Fathers who spoke through the Olubaka of Oka, Oba Adebori Adeleye listed some of the bad federal roads to include: Owo-Ikare Akoko Road, Akungba-Oka-Isua Road, Epinmi-Ugbe-Ikare Road, lkare-Ajowa road, Kabba-Isua-Idoani-Ipele-Owo road and lkare-Ogbagi-Irun Akoko-Ado Ekiti Roads.
The Traditional rulers who said the Akoko people voted massively for the APC administration of President Buhari in 2015 and 2019, lamented that the bad roads had crippled socio-economic activities, aide insecurity and made travelling from Abuja to Lagos difficult.
“In addition, on behalf of our two distinguished Representatives, Hon. Ade Adeogun and Hon. Olubunmi Tunji-Ojo thank you for the confidence you reposed on them for assigning the position of Deputy Chairman, National Security and intelligence Committee, and Chairman, House Committee on NDDC respectively in the House of Representatives.
“We will only ask for one or two things that will include the massive rehabilitation of all the Federal Roads in Akoko that includes the Owo-Ikare Road, Akungba-Oka-Isua Road, Epinmi-Ugbe Ikare Road, Ikare-Okeagbe-Oyin Road, lkare-Ajowa and lkare-Ogbagi-inm Akoko Roads.
“All the above specified roads are Federal roads that had completely collapsed due to lack of adequate drainage system and maintenance. Your attention is also specifically drawn to the road from Kabba-Isua-Idoani-Ipele that had been abandoned for a long period of time. if this particular road is rehabilitated, will remove the heavy burden of the heavy duty vehicles on the deplorable roads in Akoko.
“The role of Traditional Rulers in the area of security cannot be overemphasized, considering the
fact that they are the closest to the people and their complete exclusion from the 1999 Constitution of the. Federal Republic of Nigeria as amended should be reviewed and a defined role as the Custodian of Custom and Tradition of the people should be set outappropriately.
“Under your able leadership, the House should urgently consider the restoration of full autonomy to the Local Governments for an effective grassroots development, by the amendment of relevant portion of the 1999 Constitution,” the Monarchs opined.
Responding, the Speaker, Femi Gbajabiamila who was accompanied Adeogun and other lawmakers, said he would work with Adeogun and other federal lawmakers to ensure relevant ministry and agency address the poor state of roads in Akokoland.
The Speaker noted that Adeogun and other lawmakers from the state had always been talking and agitating over poor condition of federal roads in Akokoland and other parts of the state.
In an interview, the federal lawmaker representing Akoko southwest/Southeast constituency, Mr Ade Adeogun expressed delight he could facilitate the visit of the Speaker to the constituency which is the first in the history of the area in many decades.
Adeogun expressed optimism that Gbajabiamila’s visit would bring fortunes to Akokoland.
