Succour as Ondo distributes N50m relief materials to disaster victims

Ondo State Government on Monday, distributed relief materials worth N50 million to the victims of various disasters in the state.

The beneficiaries were mainly victims affected by flood and those whose shops were razed by fire on last year Christmas Day at Oba Adesida road in Akure, the state capital.

It will be recalled that Governor Oluwarotimi Akeredolu, SAN, visited the scene on the day of the incident to access the level of damage and also sympatised with the victims.

He later directed his Deputy, Hon. Agboola Ajayi, whose office is in charge of the State Emergency Management Agency (SEMA) to visit scene and to also promise relief items for the he victims.

The items distributed by the government included Bags of Cement, Corrugated Iron Sheets, Palm Oil, Bags of rice and beans, ply wood and mattresses.

Those whose shops were razed were given undisclosed amount of money.

Distributing these in Akure, the State Deputy Governor, Mr Agboola Ajayi, said the gesture was to cushion the effect of the natural disaster on the affected victims.

Ajayi, who explained that there were natural and man-made disasters, urged the people in the state to always take precautionary measures against disaster such as switching off electrical gadgets among others to avoid future occurrence.

He also said the gesture was part of government’s agreement with the people of the state, ”to always be there for them.”

The victims include those that lost their houses, shops and property to flood, wind and fire disasters in the state.

The Director-General of NEMA, Mr Mustapha Maihaja, who was represented by the Head of Operations of the agency, Mr Adebiyi Babatunde, commiserated with the affected people.
