The crisis rocking Rufus Giwa Polytechnic, Owo, Ondo State, is yet to be resolved as the authorities of the institution on Tuesday announced the dismissal of the chairman of the polytechnic’s chapter of the Academic Staff Union of Polytechnics, Mr Oluwadare Ijawoye, and his Secretary, Mr. Ade Arikawe.
The development came 48 hours after the ASUP chairman accused the governing council chairman of the polytechnic, Mr Banji Alabi, of involvement in financial mismanagement.
Ijawoye said the state government-owned institution was already on life support, following alleged maladministration of the management, particularly the governing council.
In a public notice released by the management of the polytechnic on Tuesday, it said the management took the decision following the alleged involvement of the duo, Ijawoye, and Arikawe in gross misconducts.
According to the notice, the management also announced that the ASUP had been suspended from the polytechnic.
The statement read, “This is to certify that Messrs Oluwadare Ijawoye and Ade Arikawe have been dismissed from the service of the Rufus Giwa Polytechnic, Owo, and barred from entering into the polytechnic.
“The duo, therefore, cease to be the chairman and secretary of the suspended ASUP, anyone transacting business with the duo, is doing so at his own risk. ”
Reacting to the issue, the embattled ASUP chairman, however, said the institution had not contacted him officially, describing the management decision as laughable.
“I have not heard anything of such from the management, I tell you it is a laughable issue, we still have our case in court and the management has also not officially contacted me, so what they are doing is laughable,” Ijawoye declared.
